Upper School
At Caldwell Academy, the Upper School (Rhetoric School) is comprised of students in ninth through twelfth grades. The Rhetoric School is the period in which Caldwell Academy seeks to prepare graduates who will be winsome, persuasive, confident communicators equipped to defend truth in a relativistic society. As the name implies, Rhetoric instruction focuses specifically on the art of persuasion.
Mastering the Tools of Learning
In the Rhetoric School, students draw upon the knowledge and reasoning skills developed in the Grammar and Dialectic years to communicate truth with clarity, conviction, and wisdom. Through the study of debate, apologetics, speech, essay writing, and drama, students learn to think deeply and express their ideas persuasively. A rich humanities curriculum grounded in primary sources and the great works of Western civilization is complemented by rigorous study in mathematics and the sciences, preparing students for success in college and beyond.
Relationships That Foster Growth
The Rhetoric years are marked by meaningful relationships between students and teachers. As students navigate important academic, spiritual, and personal milestones, they are known, encouraged, and challenged by faculty who are invested in their growth. These strong relationships help cultivate intellectual maturity, Christlike character, and a lifelong love of learning.

A Caldwell education is intended to prepare students not only for what they will do, but for who they will become. Through leadership opportunities, service initiatives, athletics, fine arts, student organizations, and other student life experiences, students are encouraged to use their gifts in service to others and for the glory of God.
