Caldwell Academy is pleased to offer a thriving drama program that produces several superior productions throughout the year. Drama is offered as an elective to Dialectic and Rhetoric students, and participation in productions is open to students outside the drama classroom.
We would like for all of our students to have the opportunity to learn about drama and experiment with acting skills, so we encourage all Dialectic and Rhetoric students to consider how they might join our drama productions. In addition to acting, opportunities for students to get involved range from set design and costuming to advertising and ticket sales as well as backstage work and sound and lighting, with families often assisting in set building and costuming. Auditions are held each year and rehearsals take place after school. Past productions include Pride and Prejudice, Peter Pan, Les Miserables, Jane Eyre, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Much Ado About Nothing.
Drama is offered as an introductory course in the Dialectic School, while classes in both on-stage and behind-the-scenes drama are offered in the Rhetoric School. Students are instructed in many aspects of drama, including acting, improvisation, theater history, technical theater, backstage skills, and more. Opportunities are afforded each student to discover and develop performance and production skills in a classroom setting.
